Study French Expressions!

Always study French expressions as they come : study the French expression in it's complete sentence, never try to break up the French expression in a literal translation.

  • Comment ça va : how are you? (how it goes?)
  • Bonjour : "goodday" is the most common and polite greeting. It can be used during the whole day, so no need to look at your watch.
  • Monsieur, Madame, Mademoiselle
When French people don't know each other, or they want to express their respect, they use
    • monsieur when speaking to a man : 'sir'
    • madame when speaking to a woman : 'misses'
    • mademoiselle when speaking to a not married young girl : 'miss'

Study French Kissing!

Unlike in Malaysia, where "French Kissing" is something that gets peoples imagination running wide, in France, the French kiss each other a lot : French girls kiss French girls (mostly in the air next to the cheek, not to mess up any make up), French boys kiss French girls, and even French men kiss French men, especially in the North-African Countries.

If you don't like French kissing, be prepared to do some martial-art "get-away" movements...

Study French : VOUS - TU : you

In French you need to study that French has 2 words to express "you"

  • vous : used to be very polite, in formal occasions
  • tu : used between friends and colleagues

When you don't know which one to choose... listen to what is said in French to you :

  • use vous when you hear the French person using it to address you
  • use tu when you hear the French person using it to address you

Always study French persons whom are talking to you in order to give the appropriate answer.
