Being a French teacher, I perfected these 5 secrets in my French courses. The results are happy students chatting away in French after they leave my first French class!
1. Are you motivated to learn French fast?
The students that don’t manage to learn French fast in my course are the ones that signed up to make some friends and go clubbing after the course.
Because that’s their motivation to come to my French courses, they do end up making friends, but they don’t manage to learn much of French (except for French phrases like : I love you, my name is… French phrases that are useful for making friends…)
Motivation is king, so the most important must have is a bunch of motivation.
2. Make time to study French
If you don’t enroll in French courses nor French classes, you need to make a rigid time schedule for yourself when you are only going to learn French.
Phone from the hook, TV out, dinner finished and only concentrate on learning French.
3. Learn French step by step
Remember how you learned your first language:
- you repeated what you heard,
- you tried out sounds and waited for other people to react
- and you found yourself communicating although…
- even in your own mother language, you do feel sometimes you aren’t understood.
In other words: listening and repeating French words is crucial, communicating then to other French speakers is equally crucial and only then you need to be bothered whether you are understood or not.
When learning any language from scratch: don’t be shy when you are not perfect. Even the French president doesn’t speak French perfect (but then he speaks French well enough to be understood and get elected…)
4 French language CDs immerse you in speaking French fast
Buy our RocketFrench language CDs online or go to your local bookstore and look for French audio material.
Before you buy your French course in the bookshop, make sure there aren’t other language course books in other languages using exactly the same pictures and lessons as your French course.
These are mass produced language courses translated in many languages from the same source. This keeps their price down but doesn’t take the step by step approach into account.
It should be clear to you that you need a different approach to how to speak French step by step compared with the steps you need to follow in order to learn Chinese language.
5 The more fun you have, the faster you learn French
That’s the only reason why people learn French swear words and French love words quickly, because that’s just fun.
