French in LausanneThe first time I heard about Lausanne was when one of my French students told me his motivation to study French is to go and study to become a culinary chef in Lausanne.

I never ever taught about studying French in Switzerland, as the story goes that Swiss people rather stick to themselves and are quite reluctant to take in foreigners. I wasn’t prepared to take that risk: studying far away from home in a community that doesn’t accept you, would be a failure for sure.

Study French in Lausanne

Yet, that was my idea, you can still study French in Lausanne if you want. As Lausanne is part of the French region of Switzerland (they also have Italian, German and another kind of roman language.)

The Swiss School of Languages is the most famous language school in Lausanne and caters to overseas students. It’s located near the Swiss Federal Railway (CFF) and nearby the Lausanne subway. As with any decent language school they help you out with:

  • the facilitation of the administrative procedures required to obtain a visa of entry into Switzerland
  • a pick up from the airport, if desired
  • finding accommodation nearby the school
  • exchanges between the students and the local society (which I find very encouraging!)
  • preparation for entrance exams to Swiss universities

If you come from a warm country, I do suggest to study French in Lausanne in summer though :-)
