Normally teachers just don’t want to teach their students the juicy swear words of a language. Which is smart as it could be used against them
But from time to time you do need to make an exception, otherwise you will be hearing the same words over and over again in France and wonder why your teacher never mentioned it, therefore thinking: why did I ever fork out so much money and still don’t know the daily used French phrases.
Most used French curse word
This French curse word was noted first time by one of Napoleon Bonaparte’s generals Cambronne. When he found himself outnumbered by the enemy and was asked to surrender, he lifted his sabre and attacked with the defiant syllable: Merde!
During a normal day in France, it seems that a lot of people are still finding themselves outnumbered by enemies…

The best ways of learning French are:
- learn French in France
- go international: you can learn French in another French language country. Belgium is my country of choice but equally good are Canada and Switzerland: also well known for learning French there.
- try to learn French with a native French speaker (learn French online by chatting or writing emails, or even better: learn French with a French colleague or friend)
French swear words not so rude…

Va voir si j’y suis!
Not a pretty rude French swear word, as you can see it used in an advertisement of a French website.
Learn this French sentence by hearth, as there as very useful words you will need whenever you learn French:
- va : Go, he goes, she goes, it goes
- si : if
- j’ / je : I
- je suis : I am
- y : there
If you have been learning French / Français before, you should know already the expression using "y" :
- Il y a : there is - there are
So the whole French sentence: va voir si j’y suis means : Go see if I am there / Go have a look if I am there…which only a very stupid idiot will do…
