Learn French in Brussels

I already wrote a few words about why you should learn French in Brussels a few months ago, but I better list some schools where you can learn French as well.

Why learn French in Brussels?

learn French in BrusselsBrussels is both the capital of the Kingdom of Belgium and of the European Commission and the Council of the European Union: call it the Capital of Europe!

1 out of 10 people in Brussels is not a native Belgian, which is reflected in a diversity of interesting neighborhoods, excellent restaurants, numerous cultural festivals, and various languages. Explore a variety of bars, clubs, historic and cultural sights, as well as museums and parks while attending French language courses in Brussels.

While French is the dominant language English and Dutch (Flemish) are also widely spoken, so if you are a beginner in French, you will surely be able to find your bearings using English. Although I must say it’s even more easy to find your bearings in the rest of the Flemish region in Belgium.

Learn Cajun French

Does "Baton Rouge" ring a bell? Yes, we are talking hurricane Katrina here, but this time not because of the weather, yet because of the state Louisiana. Ages ago Louisiana was a French settlement… French kings used to be called Louis… It’s a no-brainer why this state these days is called Louisiana.

French MusicNow you will tell me: nobody I saw on TV was speaking French there during the floods, so what is this learn Cajun French all about?

Well, the old French settlers in Canada were given kind of a choice: to leave Canada for other French territories like Haiti or Louisiana. Lot’s of them settled in the harbour of arrival: New Orleans.

Yet Cajun lives on, not only in the well known Cajun foods and Cajun seasoning but especially in their French music. Unlike the language spoken in Paris which evolved to the French you hear now, Cajun is more or less a reminder how French was spoken 400 years ago. You can learn Cajun French if you listen to Cajun music like in the sample French music song Quand j’étais pauvre from Dewey Balfa , Louisiana. Violin and Cajun accordions are the music instruments of choice.(Music lyrics are included as otherwise it could become a bit difficult…)
