Looking for housing when you want to live near your campus can be cumbersome. On one hand you need a place to sleep and at the same time you are still looking for a place! At the University in Belgium where I study, they have a kind of hotel to stay before you find your real place by looking around for yourself.

A much easier way is set up for North Carolina Duke students by Duke students: they have created their own Durham apartments site!
