The best ways of learning French are:

  • learn French in France
  • go international: you can learn French in another French language country. Belgium is my country of choice but equally good are Canada and Switzerland: also well known for learning French there.
  • try to learn French with a native French speaker (learn French online by chatting or writing emails, or even better: learn French with a French colleague or friend)

French swear words not so rude…

study french in france

Va voir si j’y suis!

Not a pretty rude French swear word, as you can see it used in an advertisement of a French website.

Learn this French sentence by hearth, as there as very useful words you will need whenever you learn French:

  • va : Go, he goes, she goes, it goes
  • si : if
  • j’ / je : I
  • je suis : I am
  • y : there

If you have been learning French / Français before, you should know already the expression using "y" :

  • Il y a : there is – there are

So the whole French sentence: va voir si j’y suis means : Go see if I am there / Go have a look if I am there…which only a very stupid idiot will do…

Did you know you could get a 3 month long French language immersion "for free"?

It needed the marriage of my niece to find out… At the small dinner we had afterwards, I spoke to her little sister who started like me: getting a French scholarship because nobody else is taking them and get your French studies paid for.

The only problem with studying something because there is a scholarship, is that you could end up doing something you don’t like too much. Now I am in love with the French language, but my little niece is in love with traveling. So she wants to become a flight-attendant. Standing on your legs with smile on your face for 12 hours in a row is not really my kind of fun but anyway…

The main thing is that she got offered a job at HSBC bank on one condition: she has to sign a 3 year contract. I would have been interested, but I want to continue my studies, so it’s one or the other, yet for her it would be ideal because…

… the benefit is: the bank will give here a 3 month long French language immersion in France as part of the training!

And what is the French translation of "donkey"?

There you are: l’ âne in French sounds like line, and by now you will never forget that.

It doesn’t even have to be exact. Focus on the sounds created when pronouncing French words.
