Useful phrases in French

Of course all French phrases are useful... Yet for any French tourist, the most useful phrases in French are the ones asking for a room reservation. We all need to sleep, even in Paris: the city of lights...

Useful reservation phrases in French

The most useful phrase in any French conversation is comment?, meaning : can you repeat that again? Never be afraid to keep on asking the word comment, since it takes a few comments before the French remember that not everybody in the world speaks French, let alone learns French.

J'ai réservé au nom de Jourdan.  Une chambre pour une personne, avec une douche si c'est possible.
Réceptioniste:

Oui, mademoiselle.  Vous avez la chambre onze au premier étage.

Nicole:

Y a-t-il un ascenseur ?

Réceptioniste:

Oui, mademoiselle.

Nicole:

Alors, je préfère une chambre au deuxième ou au troisième, s'il vous plaît.

Réceptioniste:

Bien, mademoiselle, et vous restez jusqu'à quand ?

Nicole:

Jusqu'au dix.  Trois nuits.

Réceptioniste:

Vous avez la chambre trente-deux au troisième étage.  Je vous souhaite un bon séjour dans notre maison.

Booking a "walk-in" room at the reception-desk

Nicole sees a nice hotel when walking in the streets and she decides to book a room there.
