When you meet a French person for the first time it is common to shake hands, as you would in most English cultures. It is also commonplace to use more formal greetings and phrases. For example:

Good day, Sir Bonjour, Monsieur

If you are meeting a French friend (male or female), or someone that you have met several times before, then use “Salut!” followed by a kiss on both cheeks. Kissing both cheeks is a European tradition, except for in Holland where they kiss three times rather than twice!

Nasal Sounds

French people use "their noses" not only to eat, but to pronounce the "nasal sounds" :
when a vowel (a,e,i,o,u) is followed by m or n, the 'm' or 'n' is silent and the vowel is pronounced
in your nose :
the sound when kids close there noses to act as if they are speaking on the phone.
